Men’s moleskin Mill Gilet

Our inspiration for new products comes from all manner of places. The Mill Gilet was designed specifically for an event at Goodwood Revival, inspired by the workwear worn by mechanics when cars needed a hammer to fix them, rather than an iPad. There’s also a nod to the style of workwear worn in our mill when it was first built over 100 years.

We’ve aimed for incredible durability – this is made from the finest moleskin – but it is smart enough to be dressed up. The cut is clean, practical and easy to wear over a shirt or under a jacket when the weather is struggling to decide.

Moleskin is a remarkable material. It is a heavy cotton fabric, woven and then shorn to create a soft pile on one side. We use what we consider to be the finest in the world. It is water-resistant, wind-resistant and naturally breathable.

There is a deep welted chest pocket designed to fit even the largest phone, and two generous waist pockets.

It’s tougher than it looks, too. There are reinforced seams with super-tough thread. Neat front facings. No fall-off buttons, wrapped with recycled thermofusion thread and heavy-duty keyhole buttonholes.

The result is a gilet that feels at home at Goodwood, in the workshop, at the pub, or anywhere that appreciates proper cloth and a bit of restraint.
