Jeff Smith, 53, is on his way up Mount Everest in a McNair Shirt. Jeff, if successful on his trip, will be the first person to summit with two false hips.
The aim of this journey is to inspire school children everywhere. Instead of fundraising for this trip, Jeff and his daughter Chloe decided to give their time and so have been to visit school children all over the UK. As Chloe explains “We want to prove to them that they should never ever give up on their dreams and aims in life, no matter how tough things get. Dad has given speeches across the country to over 3000 children and the responses have been incredible.”
This journey was going very smoothly, however two main sponsors pulled out just three months before Jeff was due to leave. Unsure if this trip was going to go ahead. Jeff was forced to practice what he was preaching and ‘never give up.’
“In less than three months over £20,000 was raised, however this is still not enough to cover the expenses of the trip (including; ropes, guides, tents, food, oxygen etc). Jeff’s guide has been extremely kind and allowed him to still go on the trip and has agreed to be paid upon Dad’s return.”
