Each month we invite you to get to know one of our customers a little better. This month we introduce Max Vaughan who set up White Peak Distillery, one of the few English whisky distilleries. Max had harboured a dream for many years and back in 2016, he and his wife Claire took the leap. Together with the master distillers and the rest of the team, they have made their Derbyshire distillery a reality.
Set in the Johnson & Nephew wire works, which lies within the beautiful Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Back in the day it was a major employer with over 500 people but closed its doors in the mid 1990s. Max is now distilling malt whisky and a range of gins in what were the former maintenance and stores sheds. Regeneration, conservation and community sit at the core of the business.
Not everything in setting up the distillery was plain sailing and you can read more here about how the distillery was set up. Their foundation is now solid and the first single malt whiskies are being sampled ready for future sale…… You can even join their Temperance Club, a community of whisky enthusiasts from near and far.
We are really over the moon that Max will be joining us for Made Beautifully Here.
